Amazon Holiday Deals

I worked with Amazon and Initiative's dedicated in-house Amazon agency, Rufus, to develop custom interstitial ad units, motion graphics, and display banners for Amazon's holiday shopping campaign for both 2023 and 2024. The goal of this campaign was to drive awareness around Amazon's holiday deals. I designed and developed custom ad units featuring an interactive drawer with shoppable categories, which we ran in 2023, 2024 and will run in 2025 as well.

Amazon wanted a shoppable creative experience that was different than the typical carousel that we had built for previous campaigns. They wanted to surface multiple shoppable categories to the user more quicker and effectively than a carousel.

I prototyped a shoppable drawer concept, a drawer that would appear from the bottom featuring multiple categories within an single interactive scrolling pane.

The Amazon team really liked this concept so we took it into production. I built a hero image by compositing various photographs into a casual bento style hero image with some light sparkle animation.

The drawer was populated with various categories like toys, fashion, kitchen, and more. An accompanying photo was included with each category. Each category clicked out to category-specific landing pages.

During the development phase we had also prototyped an another creative where you could tap different parts of the hero image to bring up a relevant shoppable category card.

This prototype felt more interesting and interactive to us. It encouraged the user to explore different parts of the hero image. However, we felt like it created more friction in getting the user to click out to a category landing page, which was the ultimate goal of the campaign.
